Lustig tied for 9th in PIAA golf finals
Belle Vernon junior Bo Lustig is within striking distance heading into the second day of the PIAA Individual Boys Golf Championship at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pa. Lustig shot a 73 to finish at 2-over-par and sits tied for ninth place with three other golfers. He recovered from a 41 on the front nine to shoot a 32 on the back nine.
“I was hitting the ball solid on the front,” said Lustig. “I three-putted a few holes on the front so the score is misleading.”
Although he is in ninth place, anything can happen in the final round.
“If I shoot one or two under par, I think I’ll be in contention,” added Lustig. “I surprised myself a little. I expected to shoot a 75 or 76 today.”
Lustig tees off at 10 a.m. today with Ryan Prokay of Grove City, Ben Gjebre of Latrobe and Chris Cline of Hempfield. Gjebre won the WPIAL Championship earlier this year.
“It’s good to have a solid player like that to golf alongside to push me,” added Lustig. “It gives me an idea of what I need to do to stay in contention.”
With a day under his belt at the course, Lustig expects to improve the second time around.
“The green speeds were tricky at first, but I have them down now,” said Lustig. “Between that, playing here last year and the practice on the par threes, I should shoot better today.”
Chambersburg’s Mallory Cortis finished the first day of the girls individual championship tied for 18th place with a 14-over 86.
