Police serve warrant

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

In brief… State police said they served warrant for the arrest of a Ronco man accused of violating sexual offender laws.

Cpl. Chuck Frey said Howard Theodore Morris Jr. was taken into custody at his home at 632 Flinn Ave. by six police officers shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.

Frey said officers became aware that a warrant had been issued for Morris’ arrest in Ohio for violating sexual offender registration laws. He said Morris also had an outstanding warrant out of Tennessee.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Frey said that the warrants were filed before Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer and Morris was subsequently placed in the Fayette County Prison on $40,000 straight cash bond.

He will be extradited by both states at a later date, Frey said.

Permits approved

Supervisors in Franklin Township, Greene County, on Monday approved building permits for the construction of a commercial project.

A McDonald’s restaurant, Exxon gasoline service station and convenience store will be built at the intersection of state Route 21 and Miller Lane, the supervisors said. A retaining wall also will be constructed near the site.

Supervisors also approved building permits for a barn on Hill Schoolhouse Road, a mobile home in Eastview Trailer Court, a porch roof on Dark Hollow Road, an addition to D.L. Machine on Willow Drive, a car wash on state Route 21 and a warehouse for Basin Tools on Baker Drive.

Board chairman Reed Kiger reminded residents that the township will be holding trick-or-treating from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Residents who wish to participate may turn on a porch light.
