Police use tracking device to locate stolen computer
State police used a type of internal monitoring device to track down a laptop computer that was stolen from South Union Township. As a result, Cpl. Chuck Frey said Chea Lamont White, 38, no address available, was charged with theft following the warrant service for the stolen computer at a home on Farnsworth Avenue in Clairton at 11 a.m.
Frey said that after the computer was reported stolen from a South Union Township resident, Trooper Craig Soltis utilized a beacon inside the computer that emitted a signal whenever the machine was in use.
He said police were able to track the stolen computer to the Clairton home where they found White in possession of the laptop, along with three stolen handguns, a bag of crack cocaine and two additional bags of suspected drugs.
Frey said that the Clairton Police Department seized the guns and drugs, and took White into custody.
Police said they would be filing additional charges against him.
Frey said police also discovered that White had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, including a charge of larceny in New Jersey and a drug possession charge from Greene County.
White has an extensive criminal record in multiple counties in Pennsylvania.
