Favre loses completion
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A day after losing to the Steelers, Brett Favre lost a pass completion, too.
An official scoring change made Monday took away one of Favre’s completions during Minnesota’s 27-17 loss to the Steelers on Sunday. Favre officially completed 33 of 50 passes, not 34 of 51.
Favre was errantly given a completion for no yards to Sidney Rice with 8:16 remaining on an apparent 10-yard touchdown pass play that was nullified by a 10-yard tripping penalty on tight end Jeff Dugan.
Rice ended with 10 catches for 136 yards, not 11 catches.

Baseball Yates a free agent
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Right-handed reliever Tyler Yates has chosen to become a free agent after the Pittsburgh Pirates requested outright waivers on him.
Yates had Tommy John surgery in July to replace a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow for the second time in his career. He is not expected to pitch again until the middle of next season. Yates also had the ligament repaired in 2002 and needed major shoulder surgery in 2005.
The Pirates apparently planned to offer Yates a minor league contract, but he preferred to seek work in another organization. Yates made $1.3 million this season.
Yates, 32, didn’t pitch again after being placed on the disabled list May 15 with a 7.50 ERA. He was 6-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 72 games with Pittsburgh in 2008.
Indians introduce Acta
CLEVELAND (AP) – Manny Acta had two choices for his second job managing in the majors. He picked Cleveland over Houston, where his baseball career began.
Acta, Washington’s former manager who turned down a chance to return to the Astros, was introduced as Cleveland’s 40th manager on Monday. Acta signed a three-year contract with the Indians, who outbid the Astros over the weekend for the 40-year-old.
“This is a perfect place for me,” Acta said. “That’s why I’m here. I’m attracted to all these talented young players. I’m looking forward to teaching and leading them and helping this team win a championship.”
Acta spent 2 1/2 years with the Nationals, who fired him after a 21-61 start this season. He compiled a 158-252 record in Washington, but was confident he would get another chance.
