Franklin Township
Election briefs There will be contested races for mayor, council and supervisor in boroughs and townships in Tuesday’s election. Here’s a look at the contests.
Incumbent supervisor Tim Franks, the Democratic candidate, will attempt to stave off an attempt from Republican candidate Tom McCracken in the Nov. 3 general election. Both ran unopposed in the May primary. Township supervisors serve a six-year term.
Henry Clay Township
Two candidates will face off in an attempt to secure a six-year term as township supervisor in the Nov. 3 general election.
Democratic candidate Jesse Bates II and Republican candidate Dorsie J. Fisher Jr. will battle after securing their respective nominations. Bates ran unopposed in the May primary. Fisher, however, secured the Republican nod after beating candidate Nathan Teets by three votes.
Ohiopyle
Two candidates will battle to become Ohiopyle’s next mayor in the Nov. 3 general election.
Democratic candidate Ricky A. Williams Jr. will face off against Republican candidate Mark M. McCarty for the four-year term. Both ran unopposed in the May primary.
Seven people also will battle for four seats on borough council. Democratic candidates Correna L. Smithburger, Joyce E. Adams and Marci L. Adams will face off against Republican candidates Linda McCarty, Shirley P. Marietta, Elizabeth McCarty and Edward A. Noll. Council members serve a four-year term.
Dunbar Borough
Dunbar Borough councilman Ron Gross is challenging incumbent Mayor John C. Williams for his seat in the upcoming General election.
Gross, a Republican and Williams, a Democrat, could not be reached for comment.
Smithfield
Five candidates will attempt to secure four open seats on borough council in the Nov. 3 general election.
Democratic candidates William R. Dean, Joe Zorosky, Larry J. Leech and Jack A. Frith will battle Republican candidate Dorotha Knight. Frith, the current council president, and Knight are incumbents. Council members serve a four-year term.
