Redstone Twp. Door smashed
State police said vandals used a brick to smash the back door of a home owned by Robert Bowman of Fairbank on Fairbank-Herbert Road Aug. 27.

No tiger roaming
State police announced Thursday that they did not investigate any sightings of a large cat or tiger in the area.
According to police, a large cat expert from the wildlife sanctuary in Grindstone saw the reported tiger and determined that it was a tabby house cat of normal size.

Checkpoint planned
The state police in Uniontown will be conducting at least one sobriety checkpoint between Sept. Thursday and Sept. 12.
Police said the purpose of the checkpoint is to detect and arrest people who are driving while impaired. The checkpoint is part of a commitment by the state police and its members to ensure that the highways of the state are safe, police said.

Debris hits vehicles
Numerous vehicles traveling on Interstate 70 eastbound in Rostraver Township were struck by wire and concrete after it fell from the overpass of Indian Hill Road (Route 3011) about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 31, state police in Belle Vernon said.
Police said the incident occurred when a portion of the overpass that crosses over I-70 became partially detached from the bridge and fell into the right lane.
Police listed 14 vehicles that were struck by the debris, including a 2005 Ford Escape, a 1988 Chevrolet 3500 truck, a 1997 Peterbilt 357, a 2008 Ford Escape, a 2005 Freightliner Sprinter, a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, a 2003 Ford F-150 truck, a 2003 Dodge Stratus, a 2007 Jeep Liberty, a 2008 Ford F250 truck, a 2004 Subaru Outback, a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, a 2001 Volvo 80 and a 2006 Volvo 670.
None of the drivers were listed.

Tree struck
One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Hopewell Road at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, state police in Belle Vernon said.
A vehicle driven by Edward J. Beck III, 26, of Merrittstown was traveling around a curve on Hopewell Road when his sport utility vehicle went off the north berm and ran off the road, striking a tree, police said.
After hitting the tree, the SUV rolled onto its left side. Police said Beck, who suffered minor injuries, was cited for careless driving. He was taken by ambulance to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

Items stolen
Various items were stolen from a vehicle parked at a residence at Top Street in Smithfield between 8 p.m. Aug. 30 and 11 a.m. Aug. 31, state police said. Barbara Garcia of Smithfield owns the vehicle, which was unlocked, police said.

Report issued
The Belle Vernon barracks of the state police has released the statistical information report for August. There were a total of 849 incidents reported.
In crime activity, there were 167 offenses reported, all of which were founded. There were criminal offenses cleared and 71 arrests were made.
In patrol activity, police investigated 41 crashes, including one fatality, 10 hit-and-run accidents and 25 people who were injured in accidents. Police made 10 driving under the influence arrests and investigated one DUI-related accident.
Police issued 413 traffic citations and issued 213 warnings.

Burglary reported
An unknown amount of change was stolen from Scotty D?s Laundromat in Uniontown after it was broken into at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, state police said.

Vehicle damaged
A vehicle parked in front of a home on North Gallatin Avenue Extension was damaged between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday, state police said. Eugene R. Hynok of Uniontown owns the vehicle, police said.

Driver charged
Joseph Michael Cooley, 27, of Uniontown was charged with driving under the influence and other traffic violations following a traffic stop on Jumonville Road at 12:08 a.m. June 28, state police said.

Man charged
John Robert Saylor, 26, of Smithfield was charged with driving under the influence and other traffic violations following a traffic stop on Route 119 southbound at 2:30 a.m. June 13, state police said.
North Union Twp.
Man jailed
Jeffrey Allen Thomas, 23, of Uniontown, was arrested for fleeing and eluding police, receiving stolen property, drug possession and other summary traffic violations following an incident that began on Bouquet Street at Connellsville Street at 1 p.m. Wednesday, state police said.
When police attempted to make a traffic stop, Thomas initially refused to stop and then stopped in the area of 422 Craig Lane, Uniontown, police said.
Thomas was immediately taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis and placed in the Fayette County prison on bond.

Vehicles collide
No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident on Route 119, just south of Airport Road at 2:23 p.m. Wednesday, state police said.
Vehicles driven by Zachary S. Reitz, 24, of Birdsboro and Terry L. Williams, 55, of New Cumberland, W.Va., were involved in the accident. Police said Reitz was cited for following too closely.

Drugs found
State police are investigating an incident in which an unidentified 22-year-old man was found with a suspected marijuana pipe and a bag of suspected marijuana following a traffic stop on Township Drive at 3:43 a.m. Aug. 29.
Police said during the traffic stop, the man exited the vehicle and a pipe fell to the ground. After the man was taken into custody, the plastic bag was found. Police said the suspected marijuana was submitted to the laboratory for analysis, and the investigation continues.

Crash reported
No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 40 and Dinnerbell-Ohiopyle Road at 12:31 p.m. Aug. 30, state police said.
Police said the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by James Smiley, 86, of Uniontown was attempting to make a left turn from Dinnerbell-Ohiopyle Road onto Route 40 eastbound when he failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. Smiley?s vehicle then hit a vehicle driven by James N. Nau, 87, of Munhall that was traveling westbound on Route 40 in the westbound lane. Smiley was cited for a stop sign violation, police said.
Farmington volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.

Motor stolen
State police are investigating an incident in which a garage at 383 Yauger Hollow Road was entered and a Dakota trolling motor was stolen from inside on Aug. 27 or 28. Robert Oros of Lemont Furnace is the owner.

The Waynesburg barracks of the state police has released the statistical information report for August. There were 700 incidents reported.
In crime activity, 136 offenses were reported, 135 of which were founded. There were 57 offenses cleared and police made 55 arrests.
In patrol activity, there were 44 accidents, including five hit and run accidents and 22 people were injured. Police made 20 driving under the influence arrests and investigated two DUI related accidents. Police issued 320 traffic citations and 278 warnings.

Scrap metal stolen
State police in Waynesburg are investigating an incident in which someone broke into a building at Levine Metal at 514 W. High St., Waynesburg, and stolen an undetermined amount of scrap metal. The burglary occurred about 4 a.m. Aug. 30, police said.

Tools swiped
Several tools were stolen from a work site on Route 2059 between noon Aug. 21 and 1 p.m. Aug. 22, state police in Waynesburg said. The owner is Reynolds Inc. of Orleans, Ind.
