(Ethel) Jane Laughery
(Ethel) Jane Younker Laughery, 95, of Smock, left this earth on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at her home surrounded by family who loved her so dearly. The heavens wept with joy as they welcomed the angel they had awaited for so long. A more selfless and loyal mother and grandmother never drew a breath. Jane met Jimmy (her husband) at a “pound dance” during the Depression. They fell in love, eloped (because her parents felt her “too young to marry”) and raised five children together. Jimmy stayed deeply in love with Jane for the next 57 years.
Jane was a wonderfully accomplished seamstress who made unbelievable creations for others from (only) a picture out of the paper or a magazine. Oh, and the clothing and Halloween costumes for the kids! Her cooking was unsurpassed. Delicious eight-course dinners with homemade noodles and pies were commonplace for her family. Jane’s nurturing extended to her beloved Golden’s, too. Her knowledge of current and world affairs (till the day before her death) was phenomenal. Her remembrance of details of happenings long-forgotten by the rest of us was astounding.
Jane was born in
Smock, to James and Lillian Younker. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy, sons, Derek and George, daughter, Lillian Laughery, granddaughter, Randi Baucco, brother, John, sisters, Elsie Daniero, Betty Guseman, Ida, Ruth and Dorothy Younker.
Hoping to carry on the love she taught them are her faithful and adoring children: James (Sam) Laughery and wife, Peggy and Betty Jane Mrozek; nine beloved grandchildren: Jimmy Anton and Cindy, Tonya Luckey and Clyde, Jamie Kline and Joe, Rick Laughery and Patty, Brandon Laughery and Justi, Robin Milicia and Michael, Candi Figler and Alex, Timmy Herspold and Kelly and Kristi Herspold; 23 great-grand-children and eight great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Jane’s enthusiasm, resiliency and dedication were a beacon for all who knew her. Her sweetness and strength, as well as playfullness drew the children she loved to her. She was a model, a champion and a hero for her family. She will be sorely missed by all!
