William E. Sargent, Sr.
William E. Sargent, Sr., 81 of Sheffield Lake passed away Sunday, September 20 at the New Life Hospice Center Saint Joseph after a lengthy illness. He was born March 16, 1928 in Brownsville, PA and had lived in Sheffield Lake since 1955.
William was a graduate of Redstone High School, Republic PA, class of 1946 where he was class president. He then earned his B.S. Degree from California Pennsylvania State Teachers College, then his Masters Degree from the University of West Virginia. William continued his post master work at Indiana State University, New York University and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Mr. Sargent served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948 in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Sargent began his career, teaching elementary grades 4 to 6 in Latrobe PA from 1952 to 1954. He then taught sixth grade at the Larkmoor School in Lorain for five years before serving as Principal at Charleston School from 1960 to 1969, Jane Lindsay & Emerson Schools from 1969 to 1975, then returned to Larkmoor as Principal before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Avon Lake American Legion Post 211, Avon VFW Post 7035, Mid Century Masonic Lodge 725 of Avon Lake and the Retired Principals Association. William loved the outdoors and especially going hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia A. (nee Kelly); his children: William E Sargent Jr. (Ilona) of Avon Lake, Cindy Buckosh (Rick), of Elyria and Scott P. Sargent (Vickie) of Elyria; grandchildren: Jessica, Jarrett, Lauren, Mallory, Megan, Taylor, Randi and a brother, Carl Jr. of Republic, PA.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Grace (nee Fowler) Sargent.
Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, today, September 22, from 4 to 9 p.m., where a Masonic service will take place at 7:30. Friends may also call 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. service on Wednesday. Rev. William R. Pierce will officiate.
Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
