WCCC information sessions scheduled

This October and November, Westmoreland County Community College will hold information sessions on a variety of career preparation programs and an open house at the Youngwood campus for those considering attending college. An information session on the college’s horticulture and turfgrass management programs is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7 in Science Hall. Dr. Xuri Zhang, WCCC horticulture professor, will outline the college’s associate degree programs in floriculture, turfgrass management and landscape, design and maintenance. He will also provide information on the new shorter-term certificate programs in landscape installation and maintenance, landscape design, horticulture, floriculture and turfgrass management.

WCCC’s day and evening/weekend nursing programs will be highlighted in the information session scheduled Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Commissioners Hall. The admissions criteria for the day program, which starts in August, and the evening/weekend program, which begins in January, will be explained. Ruth Irwin, director of nursing, will be available to speak with prospective students.

WCCC faculty will conduct information sessions on the radiology technology program Oct. 19, 20 and 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Science Hall.

For those with an interest in the medical assisting, dental assisting, phlebotomy and specimen processing professions, an information session will be held Thursday, Nov. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Science Hall. The program faculty will provide information on the programs’ curricula, admission requirements and career opportunities during the session.

A general WCCC information session is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall. During this session, college representatives will provide information on the college curricula, including transfer programs; financial aid; career counseling; career placement services; and other support services including counseling, tutoring and child care.

The college will waive the application fee for anyone who completes the application for admission during any of the sessions.
