Fayette County seniors will have the opportunity to learn ways to keep electric rates affordable at a special AARP town hall meeting focusing on Pennsylvania’s deregulated electricity rates being held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, 115 River Ave., Masontown. Experts predict that electricity rates could increase more than 35 percent over two years in areas where electricity rate caps are removed beginning in 2010. The AARP said the presentation will include tips to help consumers save money on electric bills and ways seniors can encourage lawmakers to lessen the immediate impact of deregulated electricity rates.
