Bike-helmet/safety-seat check scheduled

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

Uniontown Lions Club will hold a bicycle-helmet safety check and car child safety seat inspection from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of WMBS Radio on South Mount Vernon Avenue in Uniontown. The free event is being held in cooperation with the Uniontown City Police Department, AAA, WMBS Radio, Allstate Insurance Co. and the state Department of Transportation.

AAA will provide a limited number of free safety helmets.

In addition to the safety checks, the Lions Club is seeking youth volunteers to help out on the day of the event as part of the club’s “Engaging Our Youth” service campaign, which is being held this month to promote volunteerism and engage young people.

“Organizing this service project not only increases public awareness of the importance of bicycle helmet safety and child protective seats, it provides a much-needed service to children and parents and gives us a chance to help young people to develop skills while emphasizing the role of service and the power of youth involvement.” said Eric Dolfi, co-chairman of the project.
