Margaret Cottom Young
Margaret Cottom Young, 95, of Mount Lebanon, Pa. and formerly of Uniontown, Pa., died at home Wednesday, July 28, 2010. She was born May 23, 1915 of Brownsville, Pa. the daughter of the late Honorable H. A. Cottom and Mary (Patterson) Cottom. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen P. Young and brother, Robert I. Cottom.
Margaret was a graduate of Uniontown High School with the Class of 1932 and Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Fayette County Retired Teachers Association, the PASR and a former member of the Uniontown Service League.
Margaret is survived by two daughters: Mary Young Myers of Pittsburgh and Margaret Young Wood and husband James L. Wood of Rehoboth Beach, DE; two grandchildren: Brian D. Zahand and Melissa K. Lawrence and husband Brian F. Lawrence; two great-grandchildren: Jacob R. Lawrence and Matthew S. Lawrence; and four step-grandchildren: James Wood of Pittsburgh, Lisa Craft of Duncan, SC, Jennifer McCrea of Easton, MD and Susan Kolencik of Uniontown, Pa.; and two nephews: David Kennedy and Ric Cottom.
Arrangements have been entrusted to ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC, 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where the family will receive friends today (Sunday, August 1, 2010) from noon until 2 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, August 2, 2010 until 11 a.m. at which time a service celebrating her life will be held with Pastor Donald Kephart officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
