0005915221-01-1.jpg 0005915221-01-2.jpg Edwin August Richter, age 91, of Uniontown, passed to his loving God and Jesus Christ on Monday, August 2, 2010 at his home with his devoted family at his side. He was born on December 19, 1918, to George and Mary (Foy) Richter in Accident, Maryland and grew up on the family farm.

Married and moved to Baltimore, Maryland and was employed by Owens Yacht Factory and worked his way up to supervisor.

Needed back home in Accident, he purchased and operated the dairy and vegetable farm and also learned the timber trade.

He started his own business in Pennsylvania as Richter Construction Company remodeling and building Custom homes for well over thirty years, well known around Uniontown and surrounding areas.

Along with his business, he and his wife owned and operated a farm in Uniontown where they resided.

Ed, very much a family man remained hardworking and active his whole life, with many talents and interests. He loved hunting, horseback riding, motorcycles, motor home travel, gardening, woodworking and crafting. If anything was broken, he could fix it or build it. He had a quick smile, a twinkle in his eye and he could always make you laugh. He was an avid and colorful fan of pro-wrestling for as long as it’s T.V. inception.

He and his wife in previous years looked forward to winters spent at their home in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed boating, fishing, and visits from family.

He was a lifelong Lutheran and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uniontown.

Ed was the last and oldest surviving member of his large immediate family.

Deceased are his parents, thirteen brothers and four sisters, and also a son-in-law Ralph L. Whipkey and infant granddaughters Melissa and Juliann Whipkey.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of seventy years, Thelma Bowser Richter; their three children: Loretta Roebuck and husband Stanley “Mike” of East Millsboro, Patricia Armel and husband Dale of Lemont Furnace, and Ronald Richter and wife Nema of Uniontown.

Four grandchildren: Brian Whipkey and wife Danna, Christine Buckley and husband Kevin, Patrick Richter and wife Amy, all from Uniontown, and Matthew Richter and wife Jennifer of Reading, PA.

Ten great grandchildren: Kirsty, Christian, Kyler, Kolt, and Kolin Buckley, Kristin and husband T. J. Brownfield, Brittney and Melissa Whipkey, and Ryan and Shawn Richter.

For the last ten years, he has valiantly helped care for his wife Thelma while he battled his own illness and loss of hearing. He never complained and will be remembered for his amazing spirit, strength and determination, love of family and Christian faith. He inspired anyone who knew him and will never be forgotten as a rare and special human being.

We especially want to thank Fayette Home Care and Hospice, Dr. Richard Cook, Sr., and special caregiver his granddaughter Christine.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to the American Lung Association.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, today, August 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Friday, August 6, 2010 until 11 a.m. the hour of service with the Rev. Paul Frank officiating.
