Elmer C. “Carty” Bixler
Elmer C. “Carty” Bixler, 86, of Bunker Hill, Lake Lynn, Pa., passed away Monday, August 2, 2010, in the Hazleton (Pa.) General Hospital, after an extended illness. Born May 13, 1924 in Lake Lynn, he was a son of the late Jackson and Pearl Blosser Bixler.
A 1942 graduate of Fairchance-Georges High School, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the University Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. in the maintenance department.
Carty was a member of the Lake Lynn Community Chapel, and the V.F.W Post 747 and American Legion Post 499, both in Point Marion, where he served on the funeral detail for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beatrice “Bea” Wolfe Bixler; his son, Bradford Bixler and his wife Debra, of Freeland, Pa, with whom he residing for the past year; three daughters, Beverly Baker, and Sharon Krause and her husband Rory, all of Virginia Beach, Va., Heather Medic and husband Shaun of Waterford, Conn.; five grandchildren, Eric and Joel Bixler, Lauren Krause, Levi and Ephraim Medic; and three great-grandsons, Jackson, Joel, Jr. and Xanden Bixler.
The last of his immediate family, Carty was predeceased by brothers Joseph “Jodi” Bixler and John Bixler; and sisters, Mildred Greathouse, Lois “Pinky” Rogerson, and Frances “Dutty” Wolfe.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, on Friday, from 5 – 8 p.m., and Saturday until 10:00 a.m., the hour of service, with Rev. Reba Thurmond officiating.
Interment follows in LaFayette Memorial Park, Briar Hill, with military honors accorded at the graveside by the Point Marion Veterans Posts.
