Bishop Brandt announces pastoral appointments in diocese
Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg has made official appointments that include several Fayette County parishes and priests. They become effective Aug. 18. The Rev. Ronald L. Simboli is coming from St. Anne Parish in Rostraver to become pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Uniontown, replacing the Rev. Alexander Pleban, who is retiring.
The Rev. Stephen R. Bugay is leaving Holy Rosary Parish in Republic and St. Cecilia Parish in Grindstone to become pastor of St. Mary (Nativity) Parish in Uniontown. He replaces the Rev. Micah Kozoil, who will become pastor of St. Peter Parish, Brownville, and administrator of St. Cecilia Parish in Grindstone.
The Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti is leaving St. Peter and St. Cecilia to become pastor of St. Anne Parish in Rostraver.
The Rev. William C. McGuirk will become the new pastor of Holy Rosary Parish, Republic, and administrator of Madonna of Czestochowa Parish in Cardale.
The diocese released biographies on the priests that includes the following information:
Simboli, a native of North Belle Vernon, graduated from the former International University, New Orleans; Pope John XXIII Seminary, Weston, Mass.; and Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. He was ordained in 1975 by Bishop William G. Connare at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
Simboli served as parochial vicar of Holy Family Parish, Latrobe, 1975-76. He served as pastor of the former Assumption Parish, Ernest, 1987-92; St. James the Greater Parish, Apollo, 1992-98; and as pastor of St. Anne Parish in Rostraver since 1998.
He also served as chaplain of Westmoreland Hospital and Westmorland Manor, 1976-81, and on the faculty of St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, 1981-97.
Pleban, a native of Wynn, is retiring from active ministry after 53 years as a priest. He attended the former St. Fidelis High School and Seminary, Herman, and graduated from St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, and St. Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore. He was ordained in 1957 by Bishop Hugh L. Lamb at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
He served as parochial vicar of St. Florian Parish, United, 1957-59; and St. Edward Parish, Hermine, 1959-65.
Pleban served as pastor of St. Joseph, Everson, 1966-73; Holy Cross Parish, Youngwood, and its former chapel in Hunker, 1973-82; St. Edward Parish, 1982-94; and has been at St. Joseph in Uniontown since 1994.
Bugay, a native of Gipsy, graduated from Indiana University of Pa. and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md. He was ordained in 1984 by Connare at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg.
He served as parochial vicar of Our Lady of Grace Parish, Greensburg, 1984-89; Immaculate Conception Parish, Irwin, 1989-94; and Church of Resurrection Parish, Northern Indiana County, 1995-2000.
Bugay served as pastor of the former St. John the Baptist Parish, Heilwood, 1994-95, and has been pastor of Holy Rosary Parish, Republic, since 2000 and Czestochowa Parish, Cardale, since 2002.
Kozoil, a native of Munhall, graduated from St. Vincent College and Seminary and has master’s and doctoral degrees from Columbia University, New York City. He was ordained for the Benedictine Order in 1976 at St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica by Connare. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Greensburg by Bishop Anthony Bosco in 1994.
Kozoil served as a parochial vicar of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Lower Burrell, and its former chapel in Braeburn, 1991-95. He served as pastor of the former St. Bede Parish, Bovard, 1989-91; Church of the Resurrection Parish, northern Indiana County, 1995-2001; and has pastor of St. Mary in Uniontown since 2002.
Gigliotti, a native of Monessen, attended the former St. Joseph Hall High School, Greensburg, and graduated from the former St. Pius X College, Erlanger, Ky., and St. Vincent Seminary. He was ordained in 1976 by Connare at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
He served as parochial vicar of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Lower Burrell, and its former chapel at Braeburn, 1976-79; St. Rita Parish, Connellsville, 1979-85; and St. John the Evangelist Parish, Uniontown, and its mission, St. Joan of Arc, Farmington, 1985-88.
He served as pastor of St. Mary Parish, Yatesboro, and its former chapel in Nu Mine, 1988-92; Seven Dolors Parish, Yukon, 1992-95; and has been pastor of St. Peter, Brownsville, since 1995. He also served as administrator of the former St. Mary Parish, Brownsville, 1998-2005, and has been administrator of St. Cecilia Parish, Grindstone, since 2008.
McGuirk, a native of Parker, graduated from the former St. Fidelis High School and Seminary, Herman, and the former Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton. He was ordained in 1982 by Connare at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
McGuirk served as parochial vicar of Holy Family Parish, Latrobe, 1982-84; Holy Family Parish, Seward, and its chapels in Bolivar and New Florence, 1984-85; St. Margaret Mary Parish, Lower Burrell, 1985-89; Immaculate Conception Parish, Irwin, 1989-92; and St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon, 1992-93.
He served as pastor of St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, 1993-96; St. John the Baptist de La Salle Parish, Delmont, 1996-2002; and has been pastor of St. Florian Parish, United, since 2002. He served as administrator of St. Stanislaus Parish, Calumet, 2002-08; and former Forty Martyrs Parish, Trauger, 2007-08. He worked as chaplain of Highlands Hospital, Connellsville, 2002-05, and Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, 2002-07.
In addition, the Rev. Douglas E. Dorula, a native of Uniontown, will become parochial vicar pro-tempore of Mount St. Peter Parish in New Kensington.
He graduated from Penn State University and St. Vincent Seminary. He was ordained in 2002 by Bosco at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. He has been parochial vicar of St. Barbara Parish in Harrison City since 2007.
The Rev. Joseph L. Sredzinski, a native of Uniontown, will serve as parish priest with pastoral responsibilities at Sacred Heart Parish, Jeannette, and Ascension Parish, Jeannette, while continuing as chaplain to Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg, with residence at Sacred Heart.
Sredzinski graduated from St. Mary College and Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, both in Orchard Lake, Mich. He also studied at the Dominican House of Studies and North American College, Rome. He was ordained in 1970 by Connare at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. He has been chaplain of St. Emma Monastery, Greensburg and SCI-Greensburg since 2007.
