Pool open

The swimming pool, formerly known as Flatwoods pool, opened on July 30. The residents of Perryopolis have been waiting for this all summer. Crabby was excited to find it open when she passed by last week and stopped to ask questions.

Our Crabby spent her wasted youth hanging out at the pool in the 1960s. When she got home, she told all her Facebook friends about it. From Ohio to Florida, her friends were as excited as she was, posting stories about how they hung out there back in the day.

Now known as Franklin Community Park, the pool plans to turn on the lights and hold Friday night swims. People may attend for a $5 fee.

Grants have helped restore the pool and park and the board will be happy to accept tax-deductible donations from the public. Plaques will be placed on a wall, naming the benefactors.

For more information, call the pool at 724-529-0318 or the office at 72-677-2272.

Don’t bug me

Crabby had a flea infestation in July. Her Facebook friends kept telling her to bomb the place. Crabby’s loft is so big, it would cost a fortune. And where would she put her dog, Whoopie, and five cats for five hours while the poison worked? So she opted for the old-fashioned method.

Crabby set out flea traps and kept sweeping the floor, and after about 10 days, the fleas were gone.

Flea traps are safe for animals and easy to make. Take a white container, put an inch of water in it and add dish washing soap. Placing it against the wall and under a night light helps, but isn’t totally necessary.

The containers need to be white because fleas are attracted to white. If you have a clear glass pie pan, just place it on a piece of white paper so it looks white. The fleas hop into the water, because they like a nice drink, too, but because of the dish soap, they get trapped and drown.

Crabby emptied her flea traps every two days (and had to wash fleas off her ankles for a while) and soon the fleas were gone.
