Seth Rockwell, Jamison join Enslen with sub-par rounds Jeremy Enslen was tied for sixth after the Friday’s second round at Pleasant Valley Country Club, but a stellar round Saturday in the third round at Duck Hollow Golf Club has him atop the leaderboard entering today’s final round at Springdale Golf Course.

Enslen had a couple tough holes, but finished with eight birdies for a 4-under 68, the low round of the 2010 tournament.

“He played a course-record round,” praised playing partner Mike Revak.

Until Enslen finished his round, the low round of the day was 1-under 71, shared by Seth Rockwell and Dave Jamison.

Rockwell had his troubles with a triple bogey on No. 6 and a double bogey right after on No. 7, but birdied three of the four Par 5s on his way to seven birdies.

“My driver’s been killing me mentally, just killing me,” said Rockwell. “It was a decent score. It’s gratifying.

“I had two holes that killed me on both days.”

He managed to make up ground on his brother Zach, as both have a three-round total of 227. That means the brothers, along with Justin Goletz, will play in the 12:57 p.m. threesome.

“I like playing with Zach. I learned a lot playing with him,” said the younger Rockwell.

SENIOR CIRCUIT: The two-round Senior division opened play Saturday with Joe Ruby and Dave Smithburger sharing the top spot with a 4-over 76.

Smithburger had a tough start, but managed to right the ship in the final 14 holes.

“I was 4-over after four holes. To start like that after I played so bad at Pleasant Valley, it breaks your heart. I thought, ‘Here we go again,'” said Smithburger, the defending Seniors champion. “I played steady (after the rough start). I had one birdie, one bogey and the rest pars.”

As for his approach for today’s final round, Smithburger added, “I have to be better at Springdale. There are too many good players.”

George Knapp shot a 78, and Bernie Wydo finished with an 80.

KEEPING HOPE ALIVE: Chris Taylor felt pretty good after shooting a 1-over 72 at Pleasant Valley Country Club Friday, and kept himself in contention for his first Open title with another 72. He had four birdies and four bogeys in his even-par round.

“Hopefully, we’ll see,” Taylor said of chances in the final round. “I hit the ball really good all day. I had a lot of good looks at birdies I didn’t capitalize on.

“I wanted to get within four shots of the lead. I might have a chance.”

TEE TIMES: The twosome of Ben Sampson and Jim Manges have the opening tee time at 11 a.m.

The trio of Seniors threesomes run from 11:18 through 11:36, and the final threesome of Kingora, Calvaresi and Enslen are scheduled to tee off at 1:24 p.m.
