Cornerstone Care, Community Action plan open house
Cornerstone Care Uniontown Office and Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. (FCCAA) will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19, in the agency’s Family Service Center, located at 140 N. Beeson Blvd., Uniontown. The open house, which is free to the public, will feature a back-to-school theme. Book bags and school supplies will be given to children while supplies last. Adults will receive free reusable canvas grocery bags from FCCAA’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
Healthy snacks and refreshments prepared by WIC nutritionists will be available for parents and their children. Information will be available about FCCAA’s WIC, housing and food stamp programs.
Families will have an opportunity to visit the Family Service Center’s third floor (Building C), where they can become familiar with Cornerstone Care Uniontown Office, a nonprofit community health center.
For the past 10 years, FCCAA operated the center as Community Medical Services (CMS).
Cornerstone Care Uniontown Office will provide free health screenings for parents and their children, including free blood pressure testing.
WIC will provide free BMI (body mass index) and fat analysis screenings for participants.
Families will also have an opportunity to meet medical and dental staff members, including Rebecca L. Stumpf, M.D., who joined Cornerstone Care Uniontown Office on July 6 as a family practice physician, and Jeremiah Shelton, DDS, the center’s dentist.
Dr. Stumpf said she accepted the new position because she wants to provide care to people who need it most – the uninsured and underinsured.
For more than 30 years, Cornerstone Care has provided a full range of medical, dental and mental health services for communities throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
Cornerstone accepts most insurance, offers a sliding fee scale for uninsured patients, has evening hours, does not require seniors on Medicare to pay deductibles and offers dental services.
Many of the center’s uninsured patients, with incomes below the poverty level, pay fees as low as $12 for a visit or service that might be billed anywhere from $60 to $150 or more.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
