Supervisors pave way for turbines GEOGRES TWP. – Township supervisors gave permission for a road to be widened to allow for construction of wind turbines in the municipality.

At Tuesday’s meeting, supervisors Frank Churby, Mark Migyanko and Ernie Shanaberger unanimously voted to allow Mud Pike Road to be temporarily widened.

Township solicitor Ricardo Cicconi said Fayette Engineering of Uniontown requested that the road be widened so that Iberdrola Renewables of Portland, Ore., could construct the wind turbines in the township.

“That’s all we know at this point and time,” Cicconi said.

Plans call for Iberdrola to construct 23 wind turbines in Georges, Springhill and Wharton townships. Construction is expected to take a year.

The motion passed Tuesday to allow for a temporary widening of the road states that approval is contingent upon receipt that the township will bear no costs to the widening or restoration of the road.

Furthermore, the motion states that the township will be exonerated and held harmless of all liability as a result of the temporary widening.

Supervisors did not comment on the matter at Tuesday’s meeting.

In other business, supervisors voted to pay bills and heard no public comments.

The next township meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the municipal building.
