Man awaits hearing on mountain chase
A Farmington man is awaiting his preliminary hearing on multiple charges after leading police on almost a 4-mile chase through Wharton Township earlier this week. Trooper Wilbur S. Goodwin III said Joseph W. Rodeheaver, 25, was charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving under the influence and 12 summary traffic violations as a result of the chase.
Goodwin, driving a marked police cruiser, said he attempted to make a traffic stop on Rodeheaver’s vehicle on Dinner Bell Five Forks Road at 2:05 a.m. Sunday.
According to Goodwin, Rodeheaver allegedly refused to stop and fled, leading police on a 3.6 mile chase before crashing his vehicle.
Goodwin said Rodeheaver’s vehicle overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side, and that Rodeheaver was immediately taken into custody.
Rodeheaver was arraigned on the multiple charges before Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis and placed in Fayette County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of a 10,000 bond, or $1,000.
Court records indicate Rodeheaver posted bail Wednesday and was released from prison.
Rodeheaver’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 before Dennis.
