Jerry Cappellini
Jerry Cappellini, age 85 of Masontown, Pa., passed away Friday, Aug-ust 13, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born December 15, 1924 in Lamberton, Pa. to Ermanno and Giovanna (Orazzini) Cappellini. He graduated from German Township High School, Class of 1942. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Corp 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Gunner on a B-24Bomber earning five Battle Stars and Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters.He flew 38 combat missions and was shot down twice, one of which resulted in a crash landing in Germany where he and his crew evaded capture. He had the honor of serving during wartime with his three brothers, Geno, Guy and Danny! Jerry retired from the United States Steel Corporation after 38 years at Robena and Dilworth Mines. He was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, a Charter and Life Member of Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584, and member of the Italo-American Citizens’ Club, Masontown, Pa. He is survived by Dorothy ‘Tootsie’ Cappellini of Masontown, Pa.; Daughter, Paula Coville and her husband Dominick of Masontown, Pa.; Son, Alan Cappellini and his wife Julie Ann of Uniontown, Pa.; Grandchildren: Tiffany Shaneyfelt Duncan, Bethany and Jeremy Shaneyfelt, Lindsay and Trey Coville, and Jarred, Jaid, and Jace Cappellini; a Great Grandson, Kage Churby, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Family and friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 515 North Main St, Masontown, Pa. today (Sunday) from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, August 16, 2010 until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Father James F. Bump as Celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Agnes cemetery, Leckrone, Pa., where military honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584.
