4-H Archery Club places in state competition
The Fayette County 4-H Archery Club recently returned from state competition with impressive results. Jodi Martucci, organizational leader, reported the club took two teams of four youths each to the State Achievement Days at Penn State University in State College Aug. 3-5.
The senior team took first place in the senior division in the state competition. This team included Janelle Umbel, Meghan Kutek, Cody Burnsworth and Sara Martucci.
The junior team took third place in the junior division. This team included Demi Burnsworth, Justin Zuzak, Devin Riggin and Lucas Martucci.
In addition, Jodi Martucci announced, “Janelle Umbel won the whole competition. She had the highest score of the competition and Meghan Kutek was second. They take the top four senior individuals to national competition. So those two girls are heading to nationals. They did a wonderful job.”
Jodi Martucci said that national competition will take place in Kerrville, Texas in June 2011.
She also noted that Demi Burnsworth took first place in the junior division.
“We have a good team,” said Jodi Martucci.
She pointed out the state competition is rigorous.
“The kids have to shoot 34, 45 and 55 yards. They shoot a total of 60 times. It’s a very long day. They go from 9:30 in the morning to 2:30 in the afternoon,” said Jodi Martucci. “They get tired. It’s a tough competition and you have to be prepared for it.”
