North Union business awarded Navy contract

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

A Fayette County business will soon be a lot busier thanks to a $9 million contract U.S. Rep. Mark S. Critz secured. Critz, D-Johnstown, announced Monday that a $9,555,000 contract modification was awarded to Lockheed Martin for upgrades to the U.S. Navy’s premier surface ship sonar system.

The corporation – which focuses on aeronautics, electronic systems, information systems and global solutions and space systems – has partnered with Advanced Acoustic Concepts Inc. in North Union Township to build state-of-the-art signal processing cabinets for the surface ship sonar system.

Advanced Acoustic Concepts is located at 1080 Eberly Way in Lemont Furnace.

Critz said about 50 percent of the work associated with the $9 million contract will be done at the Lemont Furnace facility, which employs 60 people.
