Orientation set

In brief+ The Office of Veterans Affairs at California University of Pennsylvania will host an orientation program to welcome more than 30 incoming freshmen and transfer students who also are military veterans.

The event is set for 4-6 p.m. Aug. 30 in Multipurpose Room G-06 of Carter Hall. The orientation will include light refreshments for vendors and guests. The Cal U Vets Club will provide dinner for new students.

The orientation is open to all current students who are receiving Veterans Affairs Education Benefits at Cal U, and to other military veterans on campus.

Several area students completed their online studies and graduated from Kaplan University this summer. Students are listed by their hometowns.

First day planned

Students in the Uniontown Area School District and the Fayette County Area Vocational Technical School will report to the first day of school for the 2010-11 academic year on Aug. 25. Students are to report to homeroom which will begin at 7:35 a.m. Student dismissal will be at 2:37 p.m. Homeroom rosters along with the vo-tech bus list will be posted on the main doors on Aug. 18. The student parking lot has moved to the gravel lot next to the old student lot off Jefferson Street. Student schedules will be distributed during homeroom. Students may purchase their lunch for $1.55 for full lunch price and 40 cents for reduced lunch. New student orientation will be held at 9 p.m. Aug. 23 in the high school cafeteria. Parents can attend.
