4 injured in deck collapse
A woman was flown to a hospital with injuries she suffered when a deck collapsed, sending her and three others 10 to 12 feet to the ground at a Bullskin Township home on Thursday. All four people were injured when the rear deck on the home at 161 Spruce Hollow Road collapsed around 4:30 p.m., according to Fayette County 911.
One woman was flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh and two other women and a young boy were taken to Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant, said Fayette EMS Chief Rick Adobato.
Supports on one side of the deck gave way, causing the four people to slide down the surface of the deck to the ground below, Adobato said.
The deck wasn’t 10 feet high, he said, but the ground underneath lies at an angle, which lead Adobato to estimate that the people fell 10 to 12 feet.
All four people are related and at least one of them lives in the home, he said.
He said the injuries could have been worse and other children were playing in the yard at the time so more people could have been hurt.
“They’re all very lucky,” Adobato said. “Very lucky.”
The Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the collapse.
