Mingo Creek plans events

Scavenger hunt The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a Nature Scavenger Hunt for teens this Wednesday, at Mingo Creek County Park. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Shelter 6.

“The Nature Scavenger Hunt is a fun and amusing way to find some interesting things in nature,” according to organizers.

Teams will search for items throughout Mingo Creek Park. Participants are asked to bring along a digital camera or camera phone.Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling the Washington County Parks and Recreation Office at 724-228-6867.

Group hayrides

The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation will be offering group hayrides this fall at Mingo Creek County Park.

Dates for the 2010 hayrides are Friday, Oct. 15, Saturday, Oct. 16, Friday, Oct. 22, Saturday, Oct. 23, Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30.

The Friday evening hayrides scheduled for Oct. 15, 22 and 29 are available 5-8 p.m., hayrides on Saturday, Oct. 16 are available 6-8 p.m. and hayrides scheduled on Saturday Oct. 23 and 30 are available 1-8 p.m.

Hayrides are approximately 50 minutes in length. The hay wagon can accommodate up to 30 people per hour. The use of a picnic shelter and a fire circle for two hours before or after the scheduled hayride is also provided.

Hayrides book quickly. Call the Washington County Parks and Recreation Office at 724-228-6867 for available times and information about scheduling a hayride in Mingo Creek County Park. Mingo Creek County Park is located 13 miles east of Washington off of Route 136.
