Oliver Gene Metcalf
0005925572-01-1.jpg Oliver Gene Metcalf, age 83, of Greensboro, Pennsylvania d i e d a t 2:18 p.m. on F r i d a y, August 20, 2010 in his home after a lengthy illness. Oliver was b o r n o n September 1, 1926 in Emoryville, W e s t Virginia the son of Lenzy Francis Metcalf and Ava Pearl (Sherwood) Metcalf.
Mr. Metcalf resided in Greensboro most of his life and was employed by the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine for 44 years until his retirement in 1988.
He served with the 3186th Signal Service Battalion with the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Metcalf was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Duquesne L i g h t Local 6310.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and pitching horse shoes.
He was dearly loved by his family and all that knew him!
On August 16, 1948, Oliver married Eileen M. Nicholas, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Curtis L. Metcalf and his wife Elizabeth of Boynton Beach, Florida and Dennis M. Metcalf of Dilliner, Pennsylvania; two daughters: Anna Jean Laucher and her husband Robert of Roanoke, Virginia and Brenda K. Debolt Spruill, Greensboro; eight grandchildren: Robert Scott Laucher, Eric Allen Laucher, Tanya Marie Palone, Jason Gene Debolt, Chasity Kapchinsky, Elliott T. Metcalf, Dylan J. Metcalf and Caitlin Metcalf; great grandchildren: Austin Miles P a l o n e and Savannah Grace Laucher; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his parents; six brothers, Ernest Metcalf, Paul Metcalf, Harper Metcalf, Charles Metcalf, A r t h u r Hartman and Lee Hartman; and four sisters, Lucresa Hoopergardner, Avanelle Hott, Freda Pratt and W a l t e n a Bellingham.
Family and Friends will be welcomed on M o n d a y from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, PA 15320 where the Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Pastor Frank Vucic will officiate.
Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pennsylvania with Full Military Honors accorded by the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491.
