Scottdale motorcyclist killed in Route 819 crash

A Scottdale man died Tuesday afternoon when his tri-wheeled motorcycle was involved in a rear-end crash with another vehicle in East Huntingdon Township. Mark F. Hixson was traveling north on Route 819 shortly before 2:45 p.m. when he struck the rear of an SUV near Cedar Drive, Westmoreland County Coroner John Ackerman said in a press release. Hixson was wearing a helmet, but was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the ground, Ackerman said. He was pronounced dead by the coroner’s office less than an hour later.
