Ralph C. Firestone “Granny”
Ralph C. “Granny” Firestone, age 83 years, of Uniontown and formerly of Fairchance and Farmington, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2010 surrounded by his loving Family. He was born in Fairchance, Pennsylvania on January 12, 1927, the son of William and Lillian (Davis) Firestone.
Ralph was a member of Wharton Furnace Union Church in Farmington and a member of its Board and its Choir for 20 years.
He was a former member of Fairchance Church of the Brethren.
Ralph graduated from the now former Georges Township High School, Class of 1946.
He worked for Hagan’s and Country Belle dairies as well as at Lake Lynn Laboratory.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 491 and also the Mountain Citizens Action Group.
Ralph was Scout Master for Fairchance Troop No. 683 for eight years.
His hobbies included fishing hunting, woodworking and square dancing. He belonged to the Appalachian Mountain Square Dancers.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Lawrence Firestone; step son-in-law Earl Sutton; grandson, Craig Sutton
Surviving are his wife Jessie (Grimm) McKinney Firestone; son, Galan Firestone and wife Terry of Fairchance; and step children: Dr. Larry McKinney and wife Debbie of Redding, California, Sandy Thorpe and her husband James of Lemont Furnace, Colleen McGettrick and her husband Tom of Uniontown, Pennsylvania and Vicki Liston of Burlington, North Carolina; a sister, Dorla Austin and her husband Vance of Florida; and a beloved aunt, Helen Cuningham of Fairchance, Pennsylvania.
Ralph was a loving “Pappy” to the following grandchildren: Jason McKinney and his wife Sandra, Jamie Gleitman and husband Aaron, Charles Sutton Jr. and wife Kathy, Mindy Thorpe, Missy Abbott and her husband Doug, and Mandy Liston as well as eight great grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pennsylvania today from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Reverend Dr. Vincent Cable officiating.
Interment will follow in M a p l e G r o v e Cemetery, Fairchance, Pennsylvania.
