Students learn chemistry of cooking

Elaine Haas of Trafford (at left) and Sage Guynn of Connellsville (at right) are learning about the chemistry of cooking from Dr. Jason Vohs in the annual St. Vincent College Challenge program. The course provides students with the opportunity to recognize and distinguish between physical and chemical changes. They studied the chemical features of different foods and conducting experiments to discover the changes foods undergo as they are heated, reacted and consumed. Haas is an eighth grader at Penn Trafford Junior High School. Guynn will be in the eighth grade at Southmoreland Middle School.
