Man who jumped off bridge identified

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

Officials from the Fayette County Coroner’s office have identified a man who died Tuesday night after jumping from the Lane-Bane Bridge in Brownsville. Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer said she pronounced Dion Jon Thompson, 37, of Monessen dead at the scene at 10:23 p.m.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene after emergency personnel found Thompson’s body near Albany Road, which runs beneath the bridge.

Springer said that Thompson’s body had landed on a patch of concrete after he jumped from the bridge around 9 p.m.

Springer said that Thompson died from injuries suffered in the fall.

She said it appears that Thompson committed suicide, but the official manner of death remains pending further investigation and toxicological tests.

It is still not clear how emergency personnel were alerted of the apparent suicide.

In addition to officials from the coroner’s office, Brownsville police and volunteer firefighters from Brownsville Fire Company No. 1 (North Side) and South Brownsville responded.

Deputy Coroner Jessie Langer said that Parzynski Funeral Home in Belle Vernon is handling funeral arrangements.
