Association criticized

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

Letters to the Editor Help me, please, to understand the theme of the Aug. 15 commentary with the headline, “Legislation to abolish townships, boroughs criticized by official.”

The criticizing official was identified as being the executive director of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. Specifically I am not able to get the need or purpose of the association through my thick head.

Organized associations and unions advocate and/or promote the common interests of the memberships. Unions that represent laborers and tradesmen are widely misconstrued to be instruments of socialism or communism. Associations that represent professional groups such as athletes, bankers, doctors, lawyers, riflemen, and the like are equally misconstrued to be instruments of free market capitalism.

In short, members of both unions and associations apply to an employer for gainful employment, are interviewed and, if qualified, are hired.

That is not the way with political positions. Supported by special interest contributions politicians campaign against challengers for governmental positions. The voters (not employers) elect (not hire) the winners to serve (not reign over) the general welfare.

Now, I do not have that right so far? If not please tell me where I am wrong. If I am right please tell me how, when, where and why the association works to aid township supervisors to better serve the general welfare.

Obama is a Muslim

A recent PEW research poll says 27 percent of American’s believe President Obama is a Muslim. I’m outraged. How could this be? His father was Muslim, his middle name is Muslim, and he sides with Muslims who want to build a mosque at ground zero.

If President Obama isn’t a Muslim, he sure doesn’t act like a Christian. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it is a duck.

All this country needs is another 9-11, then maybe we’ll realize some Muslims or maybe most belong to a religion which doesn’t value life, freedom or free speech and lives in 300 B.C.
