Two Christmas Days of Prayer scheduled
Mount St. Macrina House of Prayer, located along Route 40 west of Uniontown, is offering two Christmas Days of Prayer this weekend. The first is from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, presented by the Very Rev. John Petro, rector of the Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh. Lunch will be included.
The second is from 1:15 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, presented by the Rev. Athanasius Cherry, Benedictine from St. Vincent’s Archabbey in Latrobe. Supper will be included.
Sister Barbara Jean Mihalchick of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great explained, “The Christmas program begins the 35th year of which the House of Prayer became a full-time ministry.”
Kim Show, secretary to the director of the House of Prayer, noted that Petro presented the very first Christmas program at the House of Prayer as a young priest 35 years ago.
Show and Mihalchick explained the Christmas Days of Prayer are a retreat to prepare people for Christmas.
“We have the sacrament of reconciliation during the program,” said Show. “It is a time to reflect and draw closer to the Lord to celebrate the birth of Christ. It’s for anybody who wants to get serious about spiritual preparation. So much of the world is focused on the secular, we try to focus on a relationship with the Lord and growing deeper in that relationship.”
Participants are asked to make an offering for the Christmas Days of Prayer. Anyone who wants to participate is asked to register by calling the House of Prayer at 724-438-7149.
