Food program The “Produce to People” food program will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Greene County Fairgrounds. (This distribution usually falls on the 4th Thursday of the month). Free food distributions are available to all eligible persons. All participants are requested to bring their own bags or boxes for packing their items. No proof of income or residency is required at this distribution; however, everyone must sign a self-declaration of need form at the distribution site. No one may pick up food for another person unless pre-authorized at the Salvation Army. For more info, call Sister Audrey Quinn at 724-852-1479.

Holiday Escape

The annual Holiday Escape event will take place on Dec. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds in the 4-H Building. The day will include free movie, lunch and family fun and activities. Registration will take place between 10 and 11 a.m. An adult must accompany all children. Bring your own pillow or comfortable seating. The Greene County Commissioners, Greene County Human Services and the Greene County MAGIC Collaborative, Family Stability Community Team sponsor this event. All-night skate

The Greene County Dept. of Recreation will hold the 3rd Annual “All-Night Skate” party at the Mon View Roller Rink on Dec. 31 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Jan. 1. Parents and guardians who drop off their children must complete and sign a contact information sheet before leaving. An adult must accompany children under the age of 10 years. Flu shots

The Pennsylvania Department of Health in Greene County is offering influenza shots free of charge to former and present coal miners and their spouses and to persons at high risk for influenza-related complications and severe disease. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 724-627-3168. The Greene County State Health Center is located at 432 E. Oakview Drive in Waynesburg.

Smoke detectors

Greene County Human Services reminds county residents that free smoke detectors are available at Catholic Charities in Waynesburg. The smoke detectors are made available through a collaborative effort among Greene County Human Services, the Safe Kids Coalition and the Waynesburg police. To obtain a smoke detector, call Catholic Charities at 724-627-6410.

Budgeting classes

Community Action Southwest is offering budgeting classes on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. These classes will be held at the Community Action Southwest Office located at 58 E. Greene Street in Waynesburg. For more info, call Laurie Long at 724-852-2893, ext. 528.

Senior trip

The Waynesburg Senior Center is planning a bus trip to Branson, Missouri for a “Branson Show Extravaganza” April 3-9, 2011. The buses will leave from Big Lots in Waynesburg at 8 a.m. The price includes transportation, lodging, meals, admission to various Branson shows, and more.
