A Somerset County man suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Connellsville Township. State police Trooper Kevin DeJuliis said 86-year-old William Henry Thornley of Meyersdale was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of serious injuries suffered in the crash.

According to DeJuliis, Thornley was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Kathryn Foy, 67, of Meyersdale when the crash occurred on Route 711 at 12:25 p.m.

Officials on scene said the car, a 2006 Mercury Milan, crashed into a large stonewall near Springfield Pike.

DeJuliis said Foy was traveling north on Route 711 when she allegedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a left-hand turn.

Foy suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene, DeJuliis said.

Officials said the car sustained disabling damage and was towed.

A spokesperson for UPMC confirmed that DeJuliis was still listed as a patient in the hospital later Tuesday night. An update on his condition was not available.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the crash.

Fayette EMS and Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
