Additional charges filed against man charged in kidnapping case

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

State police have filed additional charges against a Burgettstown man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Connellsville girl May 14 through May 16. Trooper Heather Clem said Richard Michael Sabatasse, 26, was charged this afternoon before Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty Jr. with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and corruption of minors.

Those felony charges were filed in addition to felony charges filed in May against Sabatasse for kidnapping, false imprisonment and interference with the custody of children.

Clem said the charges were filed after Sabatasse and the 14-year-old girl had been communicating on the social networking Internet site MySpace for several weeks.

The girl, who was not identified, told investigators that she agreed to meet Sabatasse at 3:30 p.m. May 14, police said.
