0005895978-01-2.jpg Andrew Horchar, age 92, of Uniontown, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Uniontown Hospital. He was born on February 17, 1918 in Lemont Furnace, PA, son of Steve and Mary (Gracar) Horchar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Mike, and Steve Horchar; and sisters, Mary Porada, Anna Punday, Kathryn Sabol, and Helen Yanoscik.

Andrew proudly served his country during WW II with the United States Army Armored Car Division, in the European Theatre of Operations, and was decorated with the Silver Star Medal.

He worked for Marsolino Construction Co. and retired from the U.S. Postal Service Maintenance Dept. after 26 years. He had been a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Union.

Andrew was a hardworking, loving family man, and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 64 years, Margaret E. (Metheny) Horchar; their son, Charles A. “Chuck” Horchar and his wife Nancy of Uniontown, PA; his grandson, David James Horchar and his wife Rachel of Mandeville, LA; a sister, Margaret Novak of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Avenue, Ext., Uniontown, PA on Monday, July 5, from 7-9 p.m.; and on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the Hour of Service, with Pastor Elliott C. Leighty officiating.

Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 47.
