Andrew Horchar
0005896609-01-2.jpg Andrew Horchar, age 92, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Uniontown Hospital. He was born on February 17, 1918 in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania the son of Steve and Mary (Gracar) Horchar.
Andrew proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army Armored C a r Division in the European T h e a t r e of Operations and was decorated with the Silver Star Medal.
He retired after 26 years service from the United States Postal Service Maintenance Department and later worked for Marsolino Construction Company.
Andrew had been a member of Saint John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Union.
Andrew was a hardworking, loving family man and will be deeply missed!
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Horchar, Mike Horchar and Steve Horchar; and sisters, Mary Porada, Anna Punday, Kathryn Sabol and Helen Yanoscik.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife of over 64 years, Margaret E. (Metheny) Horchar; their son, Charles A. “Chuck” Horchar and his wife Nancy of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; grandson, David James Horchar and his wife Rachel of Mandeville, Louisiana; a sister, Margaret Novak of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL H O M E INC., 60 N o r t h Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Monday, July 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Elliott C. Leighty officiating.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pennsylvania where Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47.
