Center West sewerage contracts awarded

By Joe Augustine for The 2 min read

WEST BROWNSVILLE – Center West Sewer Authority awarded contracts this week for its long-delayed sewerage project in West Brownsville and Centerville boroughs. Project engineer Glenn Wolfe of Widmer Engineering said Port Vue Plumbing of McKeesport came in as the lowest bidder for construction of the sewage treatment plant and pump stations with a bid of $4.1 million. Shallenberger Construction of Connellsville bid $367,367 for the electrical work, while Glenn Johnston Inc. of McKeesport will be constructing the sewage collection system with its bid of $3.9 million.

Wolfe said he would like to get the project started as soon as possible and noted that after speaking with the contractors, they are already making staffing arrangements and other preparations to begin the project.

“Before we can even begin the groundbreaking, we have to have all contracts signed and in place,” Wolfe stated. “I am looking for a mid-September start.”

With bid openings held on June 15 at the Centerville Borough building, the authority decided to reschedule its June 17 regular meeting until Thursday to review the bids and make sure all paperwork was correct and all necessary documents were included.

The total estimated cost for the first and second phase of the project is $21 million.

Authority solicitor Jack Purcell added that the authority is well within funding range for the two phases.

The next scheduled sewer authority meeting is July 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the West Brownsville municipal building. The next borough council meeting is 6:30 p.m. July 13 at the borough building.
