Masontown news Bored? Come play a card or board game at German-Masontown Public Library on Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. Teens and adults are welcome.

Fourth of July celebration

Admission and all entertainment are all free for the annual Fourth of July celebration.

The schedule of events includes the following:

Noon, opening ceremonies – Flag raising by Boy Scout Pack 654 and the VFW Color Guard.

Noon to 4 p.m. – Face painting by “WHIM” (Wellness & Health In Masontown).

12:30 to 1 p.m. – Pet Parade (Stage) six prize winners awarded.

12:30 to 1 p.m. – Baked apple pie contest – $50 prize (Contest Tent).

12:30 to 5:30 p.m. – “Jelly Bean” The Clown (free balloons to all kids).

12:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Free rides – 26′ slide, rock climbing, obstacle course, bounce house.

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. – Rotary races for kids – Soccer Field.

2:00 to 4 p.m. – Coloring contest (ages 12 and younger, Main Pavilion, $25 prize.

2:15 to 2:30 p.m. – Register cake contest and floral contest entries (Contest Tent).

2:30 to 5:30 p.m. – Vote for decorated cake and floral entries (Contest Tent).

3 to 3:45 p.m. – Master magician, Chuck Caputo (Performance Tent).

4 to 4:45 p.m. – Hoone’s Martial Arts Academy – martial arts exhibition (Stage).

5:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Free petting zoo and pony rides.

5:45 p.m. – Cake contest, $50 prize winner announced (Contest Tent).

5:50 p.m. – Cake drawing – Cakes awarded to voters (Contest Tent).

6 p.m. – Floral contest winners announced (Contest Tent).

6:05 p.m. – Floral entry drawing – Arrangements awarded to voters (Contest Tent).

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – “Vibrations” Polka Hour and other favorites (Stage).

7:45 to 9:45 p.m. – “Zig Zag” classic rock (Performance Tent).

9:45 to 10:15 p.m. – fireworks.

All day – “Dusty Joe” spins records; large variety of food and game booths.

Additional parking is available at the Masontown Fire Hall, 221 N. Washington St., Masontown

Free shuttle service is available from noon to 10:30 p.m. between the fire hall and the park, courtesy of Floyd “Buster” Gladman.

To use the shuttle, park at the Masontown Fire Hall and the shuttle will take you to the Exchange Club lemonade stand in the park.

To return to the fire hall, go to the Exchange Club lemonade stand. The shuttle will be called for riders.

Cash bash/bingo

A cash bash/bingo will be held at the Footedale Volunteer Fire Department on Aug. 1 beginning at noon. The $30 admission will include a bingo package. Proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 724 892-2094.

Farmer’s Market

The Masontown Farmer’s Market will continue every Friday at the German-Masontown Park from 3 to 7 p.m. All local farmers are invited to bring their homegrown garden vegetables, herbs and fruits. Sellers are reminded to bring tables, chairs and tents for protection and comfort.

There is no charge for this event in the park.

Community Kitchen

The next Masontown Community Kitchen meal will be held Tuesday The menu will be tuna noodle casserole, peas and carrots, Panera breads and desserts.

The Community Kitchen is located in the First Presbyterian Church at 102 W. Church Ave., Masontown. Meals are served between 4 and 7 p.m. every other Tuesday in the church-dining hall.

They remind you to invite someone to attend who you may know is in need of a meal and the social and spiritual fellowship and hospitality found there. The soup kitchen meals are free to anyone in need but freewill donations are welcome and are used for future meals. The Kitchen is currently looking for someone who may help as kitchen chef in planning and preparing meals. An average of 175 meals are served so ability to cook in that proportion is important. Please consider volunteering even if for a limited time. Information for making a contribution or to schedule your time as a volunteer to help the Community Kitchen may be obtained by contacting Kathy West at 724-583-9514 or Bettie Crable at 724-583-7464.

The German Twp. Firefighters Association

The German Township Firefighters Association (Adah, Edenborn, Footedale, McClellandtown and Ronco) is hosting the Fayette County Firemen’s convention July 11 through July 17.

The event is open to the public and various competitions will be held each evening Monday through Friday at the McClellandtown Fire Department fairgrounds. The parade will also be held in McClellandtown on Saturday at 4. The parade will assemble at the Albert Gallatin North Middle School on College Avenue and Penn Street. Traffic will be restricted into and out of McClellandtown while the parade is in progress.

Italian Ladies Circle

The Masontown Italian Ladies Circle will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Italian Club. Come and enjoy an evening with friends and club members. A light lunch will be served.

Community Choir

The Fairchance Community Choir will showcase a 4th of July Cantata at the Fairchance Fire Hall on July 11 at 7 pm. The title of the show is “God Bless the USA” directed by Brad Henry. All veterans and current military are invited to attend so that we can say “thank you” for what you have done to make America so great.
