Point Marion man waives most charges in assault case

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

A Point Marion man accused of running from police in Springhill Township in April, and participating in ramming a state police cruiser with a vehicle during the incident, has waived nearly all charges against him to court. Cpl. Michael R. Irwin said Mark Coffey, 28, who was a passenger in a car driven by Brian Young, 23, also of Point Marion, was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, possession of crack cocaine, simple assault and harassment.

Prosecutors dismissed the aggravated assault charge against Coffey Thursday during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham.

Coffey then waived the remaining charges to Fayette County Court.
