One man is in jail after he allegedly fired a gun at two people, wounding one of them, during an incident that occurred Monday morning in Greene County. State police said Ricky Ray Raber, 45, of Spraggs was charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.
According to Trooper Mark A. Schmelzlen, the shooting occurred between 6 and 6:45 a.m. on Blacksville Hill in Wayne Township.
Schmelzlen said Randy L. Yoders Jr., 20, of Spraggs and a 14-year-old boy from Fairview, W.Va., reported they were sitting in a vehicle at the intersection of Sigbee Street, Schley Street and Funston Avenue when a bullet hit the vehicle.
The bullet struck Yoders in the lower right shoulder, police said, noting that the 14-year-old boy was not injured.
Schmelzlen said Yoders suffered a collapsed lung and was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Yoders was listed in stable condition Monday evening, according to police.
Schmelzlen said the incident remains under investigation. Police did not release further details.
Raber was arraigned on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson and placed in Greene County Prison after failing to post a $150,000 straight cash bond.
Raber’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 15 before Watson.
