Ask the Librarian
Parents, children participate in reading program Almost 100 parents and children participated in the Uniontown Public Library Summer Reading Program session held recently at Mt. Macrina Manor in Uniontown.
They gathered under a shade tree with Miss Tina where they learned about Mt. Macrina Manor. She then lead us quietly through the halls (quite an accomplishment for almost 100 people) and out into the sun-filled courtyard where a thriving vegetable garden grows and two tame rabbits roam freely.
Once settled there, the story “Stone Soup,” was read while a chef stirred the pot and children from the audience dropped first a stone, then onion, turnip, carrots, salt, pepper and potatoes into it. When the story was completed, we entered the dining room for a luncheon of stone (vegetable) soup.
Our thanks to Denny’s for providing the soup and rolls, and to Sheetz for cookies and milk. I hope the folks at Mt. Macrina enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.
Internet fee
Beginning July 1, a card to use the Internet only at the library will be $15 for a full year, less than the cost of a one-month Internet subscription in your home. Because of increasing costs for maintenance, damaged or missing headphones and electricity to run the computers, we’ve had to reconsider the fee and reluctantly increase it.
If you have been checking our web page for library information, I need to tell you that for the time being, it isn’t current. Our wonderful webmaster had a literal meltdown of her computer where goo and other plastics melted into the mother board and all was lost. She’s back in business (after a virus hit the replacement computer), and hopes to have us up to snuff soon. Thank you for your patience.
In the meantime, if you need to know the schedule of the summer reading programs, stop in and pick up a program flyer. Our show this week is at 1 p.m. Thursday and features Debo the Clown. He’ll be in the upstairs meeting rooms and will entertain with his balloon animals, as well as other tricks and funnies.
‘Fancy Nancy’ event
Beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, the Girl Scouts will present “Fancy Nancy Night for Girls.” Featured will be a “Fancy Nancy” story and participants can make a fancy craft. This program will continue at 6 p.m. each Monday through and including Aug. 2.
Our favorite Stage Right from Greensburg will present at 1 p.m. July 14 “Curious George goes to the Beach.” This will entertain children of all ages as they act out the story.
Come see us in the library, enjoy a summer reading program and read, read, read.
