Critz announces grant for Greene airport
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – U.S. Rep. Mark S. Critz, D-Johnstown, announced Tuesday that a $120,000 federal grant will help construct a local access road at the Greene County Airport. Funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will be used to build a new 3,000- foot, two-lane access road with parking spaces on the north side of the airport runway. The road will provide access to the proposed airport business park, and will support expanded business opportunities at the adjacent EverGreene Technology Park.
“Constructing a new access road will provide the infrastructure required to attract new jobs and businesses around the Greene County Airport,” said Critz. “This is another example of federal, state and local partners working together for the betterment of Greene County.”
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $400,000. In addition to the ARC funds, the state will provide $198,000 through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Economic Development Initiative grant and Greene County will provide another $82,000.
The ARC is a federal-state partnership that works with communities throughout Appalachia to create opportunities for economic development and improved quality of life. Congress provided $76,000,000 for the ARC in the fiscal year 2010.
