By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

The Luzerne Township Volunteer Fire Co. and Isabella Volunteer Fire Dept. are hosting their first “Battle on the Mon” battle of the barrel beginning at noon Saturday. Fire departments are invited from five surrounding counties including- Fayette, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland, and Allegheny. According to fire Chief Ryan Nichols, there will be a $1,000 first-place prize, a $250 second-place prize and a $100 third-place prize, with all three places also receiving trophies.

“We wish this to be a huge successful event for our area and wish to bring many firemen and community members,” Nichols said. “Everybody is invited from children to adults. Also we will be having games and a dunk tank plus other events following the battle of the barrel.”

Entertainment is going to be provided by local DJ’s, Nichols said. A hog roast, burgers, hot dogs and refreshments will be served. “We wish to see our community there to support their local fire departments,” Nichols said.

Proceeds from the contest, which the fire company hopes to make an annual event, will go to the Luzerne Township Volunteer Fire Co.’s building fund. The fire company is building a new truck room garage to house fire equipment and gear.
