Assault suspect faces more charges

A 28-year-old Uniontown man captured Sunday by state police for allegedly trying to run over a trooper in May is facing a new set of charges. State police said Sean Warren Middleton, was taken into custody Sunday by state police at a residence in Brownsville.

Middleton was wanted on charges of aggravated assault, escape, fleeing or eluding police, false identification and citations for reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Police said that additional charges were filed following Middleton’s arrest after he allegedly beat his pregnant girlfriend during an argument Sunday in Brownsville.

Police said that following the incident, Jazall Talton, 21, of Brownsville was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of minor injuries.

Middleton told police that he “might” have accidentally kicked Talton in the face during an argument, investigators said.

He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in the alleged beating, police said.

Police said the initial charges against Middleton were filed in May following an incident in which he was a passenger in a car that was stopped by police after running a stop sign.

The traffic stop occurred on Hopwood-Fairchance Road in South Union Township around 2:20 a.m. May 14.

Police said that the driver, identified as Theresa Dugan, 21, of Uniontown was discovered to have a suspended driver’s license.

Police said they then asked for the passenger’s name. Police said that Middleton gave police a false name and date of birth.

Then, police said, Dugan “stepped out of the vehicle and asked to be taken home because she did not want a confrontation with the defendant’s girlfriend.”

When she got out of the car, police alleged Middleton got into the driver’s seat.

One of the troopers then ran to the front of the car but had to dive out of harm’s way as Middletown accelerated toward him.

Police chased the car for about one-quarter of a mile before Middleton abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, officers said.

Middleton is now in the Fayette County Prison on a combined $300,000 straight cash bond.

Preliminary hearings will be held at later dates before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. and Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr.
