Lions park in Uniontown rededicated

By Lori Goodwin Scott 2 min read

Lions Park in Uniontown will be a place of celebration and remembrance Saturday as the park will be rededicated after undergoing renovations earlier this year. The club will rededicate the park, which is located adjacent to the Church Street parking garage, as the Ross F. DiMarco Memorial Park in memory of the late Ross. F. DiMarco, a longtime club member and past international director of the organization. There will be a formal ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by several keynote speakers. The public is invited.

“Although he volunteered to serve and work with many civic and church groups throughout his life, Ross was truly focused on being a member of the Lions Club and to living up to its motto, ‘we serve,'” said Robert Rafail, Lions Club district governor. “Before his untimely death, he envisioned bringing the fountain and park back to its glory and had been serving as the chairperson of the committee to restore it.”

Renovations to the park included new benches, flagpole, planters, decorative fountain, new paint and some shrubbery. A new picnic table will be placed in the park as well.

Uniontown Lions Club President Michael Pasqua said that through this park, DiMarco’s name will live on in the community, and it is the club’s pleasure to dedicate the park in his name.

Rafail, who also is a longtime member of the Uniontown Lions Club, added that DiMarco was a man of integrity and honor who chose to make a difference by his actions and served as a role model for those who were privileged to be in his presence.

“He had a strong sense of community pride and took an active role in making our community a better place to live,” Rafail said.

Lions clubs are known for their efforts to preserve sight and eradicate blindness, as well as their commitment to community service and helping youth.

Pasqua said the club hopes to have some free outdoor concerts in the park this year.
