FHC sponsors safe driving course for seniors

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

Fayette Home Care & Hospice (FHC) will be sponsoring a Seniors for Safe Driving (SFSD) course established by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The two-day first-time class (seven class hours for individuals who have never participated in a senior driving program) will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the FHC’s office at 110 Youngstown Road, Lemont Furnace.

Upon completion of this seven-hour driver improvement program, seniors will receive a 5 percent reduction in their automobile insurance premiums for a period of three years as mandated by state law. There will be no exams nor will on-the-road driving be required with classroom lessons only.

“We are pleased to co-sponsor this safe Driving Course, as many of our patients and their family members are seniors. This driver improvement program, designed especially for seniors, will provide older adults with an opportunity to refresh their driving techniques, develop positive driving attitudes, and regain lost confidence,” said Vickie Leone, FHC executive director.

Michael A. Mulholland of Carmichaels, American Automobile Association (AAA) certified class instructor, will be teaching the course at FHC. His years of experience as a Pennsylvania state trooper and as a certified CDL driver training instructor make the classes educational.

Classes fill up quickly so interested seniors need to register early. The $15 tuition for the course is due prior to class dates. For more information, or to register, call Seniors for Safe Driving at 800-559-4880 or go to www.SFSD-PA.com.
