Uniontown advances to Legion finals
Uniontown advanced to the championship game of the Fayette American Legion playoffs with a 6-5 win over Charleroi Sunday. Evan Arison powered the offense with a two-run triple as Uniontown (17-6) scored four runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth.
Dylan Clifford earned the win, walking three and whiffing six in a complete game.
Brendan Costantino took the loss, allowing six earned runs in four innings while striking out six and walking five batters.
Tyler Andrisko and Bob Bracken each doubled for Charleroi.
Uniontown awaits its opponent for the championship game. Possible foes are Charleroi, Connellsville and Colonial 3. Both teams in the championship game will play in the regional tournament.
Connellsville 11, Point Marion 1 (6 innings) – Connellsville scored nine runs in two innings to salt away a victory over Point Marion to advance in the legion playoffs.
The game was called after six innings following some ejections that left Point Marion without enough players to continue.
Tyler McWilliams earned the win, allowing one earned run while striking out six and walking six batters.
Ryan Craft had three hits, including a double, along with three RBI. Bill Dye and Andrew Brooks each hit thrice as Alex Keslar added two hits.
Derek Murray led Point Marion (10-13) with two hits. Gary Engle took the loss, striking out none and walking three in six innings.
Colonial 3 9, California 8 – Colonial 3 scored five runs in the fifth and added two more in the seventh inning to hold on for a win in the legion playoffs.
Frank Rafitz earned the win for Colonial 3 (14-8), fanning four and walking three batters. Jason Guthrie and Adam Dorogi each doubled.
Matt Sabatini suffered the loss, yielding seven runs and four walks while striking out seven batters.
Colonial 3 hosts Connellsville today in the next round of the playoffs.
County League
Watson & Sons 10, Mill Run 9 (8 innings); Watson & Sons 9, Mill Run 2 – Watson & Sons racked up 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Mill Run in Fayette County League play.
Mike Mox and Brian Rodavich each earned wins for Watson & Sons (4-14-1) while Jeff Nopalko and Jeff Egan took the losses from the mound.
Adam Dukate had two doubles on the day and Shane Tonkavich had a double with a homer. Josh Lawrence went 3-for-3 in the second game for Watson & Sons.
Egan had three hits, two of them doubles and Ray Orndoff hit 2-4 with a home run in the first game.
The teams face each other again today, this time at Mill Run.
Blue Mountain 3, G.K. Realty 2 – Addison Scherich picked up his first win of the year as Blue Mountain scored the deciding run in the fifth inning.
J.W. Kayla and George Taylor each doubled for Blue Mountain (11-3-2). Jeff Thompson added a home run.
J.C. Myers suffered the loss for G.K. Realty (8-8). He walked one and struck out another in three innings.
Blue Mountain travels to Bud Murphy’s on Tuesday.
