0005901329-01-1.jpg Dr. Ernest Edward Somers, 88, of Chambersburg, PA, formerly of Uniontown, died on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Born August 21, 1921, in Freiburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Fritz Solmitz and Karoline Neuert Solmitz.

He attended Cornell College in Iowa and then enlisted in the US Army. Following his Army service, Dr. Somers attended the University of Iowa Medical School. After a two-year residency at The Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Dr. Somers practiced orthopedics in Uniontown and in Chambersburg for over 30 years.

Dr. Somers is survived by his wife Bernice, of Chambersburg and five children: Jocelyn Somers of Portland, OR; Julia Arthur and husband Steven of Tallahassee, FL; Jeremy Somers and wife Cynthia of Pittsburgh, Rachel Hull and husband Jack of Chambersburg and Olivia Somers and husband Doug Holton of Portland, OR. Daughter Elizabeth Somers preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brother, Peter Somers of Newtown Square, and sister, Brigitte Alexander and husband George of Kennett Square, as well as seven grandchildren: Grace, Matthew, Adam, Alex, Cole, Hannah and Emma.

Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
